The Rise team is blessed with another overflowing class of 222 students in our Energy Trading Systems course available at the University of Houston’s Bauer School of Business. This Spring 2020 semester marks our 10th anniversary of providing university level education to students on all of the ins, outs, ups, and downs of the natural gas business. In recent years, the United States’ energy industry has become the largest producer of oil and natural gas in the world. As the industry continues to provide increasing amounts of energy to the world, the demand for well educated students like those at the University of Houston is directly growing.
To supplement this need for a better educated workforce, Rise offers our Energy Trading Systems course to students Saturday mornings from 9 to 11. Starting back in 2009, the course has grown from a moderate 16 students to having well over 200 students every semester. We attribute this growth to favorable recommendations from students who have taken the class, as well as the acknowledgement that this hands on real world experience greatly influences their future prospects.
Our course focuses on providing a complete understanding of the largest physical supply chain in America, the natural gas value chain, as well as hands on experience of managing all transaction types via a real Energy Trading & Risk Management System (ETRM). Through weekly lectures we cover the full rundown of the industry from wellhead to burner tip along with all the key aspects of the industry. We then couple this information with a lab that provides for practical application of a real energy trading system used by major industry players today.
Completion of Rise’s Energy Trading Systems course gives students the knowledge and expertise behind the actual transactions of deals throughout the entire natural gas value chain including the buying, processing, storing, and selling of natural gas. This understanding ultimately provides students with invaluable skill sets that will set them apart within the industry. Rise prepares students to come into the workplace ready to be “An Asset From Day One.”
